One has posted his Mk6 restoration pictures which gives us hope that we may attract a few Davrian fans. My son is in charge of the website from design to regular updates and so far it looks pretty good but we could do with more regulars to make the forum work so spread the word.

I came across an article on a South African website, a boat builder who has a passion for Imps and re-manufactures exhaust and inlet manifolds, stating that the Sport head with markings 7010107 (see picture) were rare competition heads made for the Hillman Imp Competitions Department in 1966.

Would you believe it – my head has the same markings – is this true or do all heads have these markings? My engine is a 930 Sunbeam unit with the strengthened block but I may have to consider a 1040 when the savings allow.

Little progress has been made over the last week but I have been banking those ‘car only hours’ doing jobs around the house – this weekend has been spent trimming the hedges – that buys me another day in the garage amongst the smell of grease and petrol… sheer bliss.
I have already started looking at new twin 40 manifolds and carburetors but what a price they are – I may have to make do with the Solex and Sport exhaust for a while.

Until the next installment – au revoir!!

So here goes for the first update in the restoration log.

The more time I spend on the car the more I think that it may take longer than I first thought…oh well at least I am enjoying myself – like a kid with a new toy!!

Got the car home on the 4th August and promptly placed it in the garage. I did nothing with it until the 8th – just needed to prove my wife wrong and show her that I would not spend every waking hour in the garage avoiding the jobs she wanted doing around the house. Anyway, I think I have worked out a pattern – earn some brownie points doing jobs around the house as a trade for time on the car…its early days but it seems to be working, a win:win strategy?

So far I have stripped the front and rear end from the car and hung them up, out of the way, on the garage wall. I decided to start with the engine and have begun the process of stripping the engine and reconditioning the parts. So far I have managed the following:

1)	clean the engine block
2)	polish the camshaft cover
3)	rebuilt water pump
4)	reconditioned the alternator
5)	repainted the pulleys, sump, oil filter casing and water header tank
6)	started to paint the engine bay and engine rails
