Good to see a new forum for Davrians.

Just went out for a run today with the boost turned up to full bananas on the new rebuilt engine.
Bigger valves, shorter duration cam, modified inlet manifold, better head gasket and bolts and competition clutch.

Wow its quick!
And its dry so loads of grip!

Oops!
Too much boost and I have just blown the head gasket.
I will do an 11 stud head conversion but it will have to wait a bit as I'm currently doing loads of jobs on my '72 Scimitar.

Sounds like you were having way too much fun!.

Is there not a 'wills ring' type cure for the mini as used on the imp?.

I guess you could engineer a Wills ring or another kind of sealing ring arrangement but it blew because there was insufficient clamping on the rear cylinder. The extra stud should cure it fine as long as I don't keep putting up the boost!

I found this video from last year.
Boost gone up considerably since then though (hence gasket failure) - Must get it fixed

Bit of an update.

I found out what caused the gasket failure in the first place. It was detonation.
So with a new gasket fitted with a bit more head bolt torque, the spark was retarded by 5 degrees above 0.7bar boost and looks as though its sorted.
Boost now raised to just over 1bar.

New problem. Just destroyed the diff!

So I'll be replacing it with a Tran-X 4 pin type which is much stronger.

Have you got any idea what sort of power it's putting out? It sounds like you could use a simple ECU to keep the advance in line with the boost!

That's not Ian Sykes's old car, is it?

Its got about 165hp at the moment

It has got an ECU ( no carbs or distrubutor there!).
Since its all bespoke I had to map it all myself and it needed a little fine tuning

Why didn't I see that! (The injectors)

What kit is that then? I know very little about the A series engine these days...is it something you can buy off the shelf or did you develop it yourself?

What capacity is the engine?
