I have recently started restoring my first car an Hillman
Imp, believing that it would be my first step into a wider world of
motoring. But as the problem is with most classic cars your going to
find shoddy work, which i did not spot on my initial viewing of the
car was that it has had 4 separate welds in key structural points of
the car e.g. the rear cross member which the engine mounts to and
heavily along the drivers side seal. This becomes most annoying when
the previous owner assured me the car was road worthy, never had a
tap before and how he just put a new coat of stone-chip so
there was nothing to worry about...!!!!
But to get to the point, i have realized that the only safe
option would be to buy a new shell which then i could feel confident
that it would be safe.
