Two UJs upgrade now underway. I've realised the best place for the wheel is probably appearing from the centre of the dashboard. It's also about an inch closer to me as it suits my preferred driving position in my daily Audi A4. Is a nearly vertical wheel desirable? I think yes and perhaps we don't see them normally in cars because the scuttle always falls away from the wheel leaving it a non-option?
One more advantage of the two UJ solution is that it allows you to angle the wheel left and right straight to the driver. Previously to get it in the centre of the driving position the wheel was pointing slightly towards the side door which left my elbows aching at the odd angles.
Next step is to have the sleeves welded on to the shafts where they join and make up both bearings for the top shaft. Oh and fix up all that disgusting fibreglass mess (not my mess, a previous owner)
