Rear brakes on a Mk5
Hello, has anybody fitted larger rear brake cylinders to their Davrian? I was thinking of 7/8" instead of the std 3/4--I understand there might have been a Girling cylinder suitable used on another vehicle but do not know the Girling number. I have the Viva HA front discs and need a bit more rear brake bias; retaining the original drum rear set-up.

I assume you mean the slave cylinder?
They are available - early Lotus or a few Fords or even a Volvo http://www.ipdusa.com/products/5972/109 ... -inch-bore

I read somewhere that Hillman Hunter rear slave cylinders fit and are larger, I think they were a fairly popular mod, it's on my to do list to seek some out and fit them

Re: Rear brakes on a Mk5
Thanks for the replies--it has given me a useful lead and I think the Girling number is 64676011, fitted to some Lotus Cortinas, a few GT6 Triumphs and a few Lotus Elite M50. They seem quite rare and difficult to get hold of for reasonable prices--but I will keep looking. This is for the aluminium type wheel cylinder which hopefully will be a direct replacement for the std Imp item. If anybody has a pair for sale at a sensible price, even second hand as long as the bores are OK, then I would be interested.

The Girling part no. for the larger rear wheel cylinders is 64676011 They are 7/8" rather than the standard 3/4" bore. Not sure if these part nos cross reference to 7/8th as well QH BWC1054, MODPROD MWC116.
That 7/8th size is also for Cortina mk1 1500 GT, which is what Tim told me they used to fit to help balance out the bias once discs had been fitted on the front.
